SAVE HOMELESS ANIMALS TODAY!

Each year, Lucky Dog 's team of over 1,500 volunteers work to save homeless animals from certain euthanasia in rural high-kill shelters. Since 2009, Lucky Dog has rescued and rehomed over 16,000 animals. This has only been possible through the support of our donors, fosters, and volunteers, and now more than every in the era of COVID-19. 100% of all donations received go directly to saving future Lucky Dogs and Cats. The rapid spread of COVID-19 is directly impacting the lives of homeless animals. Not because they are sick, but because shelters across the country are closing their doors to the public, unable to care for the dogs and cats in need and leaving them in danger of imminent euthanasia.
As a foster-based, volunteer-powered rescue, Lucky Dog was -- and is-- uniquely positioned to answer almost every challenge COVID-19 has thrown our way. Our incredible team of over 1,500 active volunteers pivoted quickly in mid-March, and, within one week moved almost every function essential to our operations to a virtual platform. We shifted from in-person meetings, paper contracts and payments, and massive Sunday adoption events to virtual meet and greets, digital contracts and payments, and Facebook live adoption events. As shelters across the country struggled to empty their kennels in anticipation of shutdowns, Lucky Dog stepped up. Arranging fosters. Coordinating transports. Sending animals to their forever homes. The incredible interest our community has shown in adopting, fostering and volunteering has been a glimmer of hope in this scary, ever-changing world.
Since March 16th, Lucky Dog has rescued over 600 Lucky Dogs and Cats from shelters across the rural south -- as far away as South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas. We have on-boarded 6 new shelter partners and helped them provide the needed vaccines, deworming and spay/ neuter surgeries required for interstate transport. Between March 16th and April 12th, Lucky Dog funded the rescue and transport of more than 477 animals from these rural, high-kill shelters to the DC area. That's FOUR TIMES our normal monthly intake.
But, our work is about more than just numbers. It's about the animals they represent. Cargo van after cargo van full of animals looking to find their forever homes. Animals whose only chance at survival is Lucky Dog.
