Announcing The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society COVID-19 Patient Financial Aid Program
During this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is committed as ever to helping blood cancer patients and their families. Blood cancer patients face unique challenges during this pandemic and, as we always do, LLS is rising to the occasion.
In addition to the robust portfolio of patient services, LLS has launched a new patient assistance program – The LLS COVID-19 Patient Financial Aid Program – which will provide $250 to eligible patients experiencing financial hardship due to the pandemic. This will help patients offset non-medical expenses such as food and other household expenses, rent and transportation.
The Program will launch with a $4.5 million commitment, seeded by LLS and valued partners, and our goal is to raise up to $10 million to help as many blood cancer patients as possible during this crisis. In just the first week of this launch, LLS has responded to 5,355 patients to provide $1,338,750 in financial assistance.
Joining LLS in this critical initiative, one of the first to meet the urgent needs of blood cancer patients during this crisis, are leading healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and consumer product companies (find the full listing on our website www.lls.org/covid).
We are setting a high bar to help blood cancer patients, and we are encouraging other companies and philanthropists to contribute to this program. As well, anyone who is inspired to donate to LLS due to this effort, can be assured that their donations support LLS’s goal to find cancer cures and support patients.
We hope you are proud of this new effort to help patients. In true LLS fashion, we will press on together, as ONE LLS, to fulfill our role as a global leader in the fight against cancer. We will not waver in our commitment to blood cancer patients, as we maintain our focus on our mission and to advancing cutting-edge research to find lifesaving treatments and cures, and to ensuring that patients have access to the care they need.
